Father Dibe Ghebrewold was born and raised in Asmara, Eritrea. From 1968-74, he was in the monastery called Abune
Bstuamlak in southern part of Eritrea (Zoba Debub). Father Dibe attended Cambony Elementary and Middle
school in the Eritrean capital Asmara. He completed High School in 1990. Father Dibe Ghebrewold was ordained as deacon
on July 12, 1980 and he served in Mekane Hiwet Church in Asmara for many years.
Father Dibe came to United States in 1994 and resided in the San Francisco Bay Area,
California since. He served the Bay Area Eritrean community as deacon for several years. In year 2000, he was ordained to
the holy priesthood in Mekane Hiwet medhanie Alem Church in Asmara, Eritrea. Currently, he is serving as a head Priest in
St. Mary Eritrean Orthodox church in San Leandro, CA. Father Dibe attended a few years of college before he shifted to study
theology. In August 28, 2014, he completed his four years theology study and earned Bachelor’s Degree in Theology from
Tewahdo Theological College in USA.
Father Dibe is very active conducting his spiritual duties including the Sunday Mass, teaching bible studies, hears
confessions, gives marriage counseling, gives spiritual directions, anoints and visits the sick in hospitals and in their
homes, baptizes, witnesses marriages, performs funerals and burials, attends numerous parish and diocesan meetings, travels
to attend spiritual conferences and many more. He is a well respected father not only in the local community but also in the
Eritrean Orthodox churches in general.
