The St. Mary Eritrean Orthodox Church Council consists of five elected members or a
number of members according to the needs of the church. It is responsible to the Parish assembly for conducting all Parish
affairs. The members of the Church Council are elected for a term not to exceed two years. The Church Council members hold
regular meetings and special meetings whenever the Priest or a majority of the Church Council shall deem it necessary.
Roles of the Church Council
The main duty of the parish council is to put together plans and priorities for the parish community.
It sets policies for council members and the church as a whole, and it is responsible for making sure that programs that are
planned are implemented. The Church Council also serve as an advisor to the Priest in setting the overall direction of
the Parish Community. As the selected representatives of the St. Mary Eritrean Orthodox Church, the Parish Council shall act
as the entity that provides the strategic oversight for the spiritual and operational functions of the Parish. The Parish
Council work closely with and advise the Priest, members of the Parish staff, various spiritual leaders, and members from
the community at large on matters related to the overall mission of the Church.
Council duties are to attend divine services regularly and to participate in the sacramental life of the church thereby setting
an example for the Parish, to administer the affairs if the Parish in such manner as to aid the Priest in the fulfillment
of its aims and purposes, establish a stewardship program, appoint a stewardship committee to implement and expand the stewardship
program of the Parish, to collect the revenue of the church, issuing receipts and paying by check the salaries of the Parish
personnel, Parish expenses, budgetary grants-in-aid for the Parish educational and philanthropic organizations, and manage
